He's Going The Distance

" Reluctantly crouched at the starting line Engines pumping and thumping in time The green light flashes, the flags go up Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank Fuel burning fast on an empty tank Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns Their prowess is potent and secretly stern

As they speed through the finish, the flags go down The fans get up and they get out of town The arena is empty except for one man Still driving and striving as fast as he can The sun has gone down and the moon has come up And long ago somebody left with the cup But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns And thinking of someone for whom he still burns"

-Cake "The Distance"

A lot of people have doubted Tim's dreams of becoming a second or third string professional athlete for any Miami franchise. It's too late, they say. He's too small, too slow, too uncoordinated! While these naysayers and haters pat themselves on the back, Tim is working. He knows that while some his age are currently cashing their pro checks, his still must be earned. And that to me is truly what separates Tim as a prospect for back-up professional athletics. He will never stop. He will never quit. No matter the odds, he persists. And frankly, that alone is worthy of extensive praise and admiration. Any Miami team who gives this local kid with a chip on his shoulder a shot will reap such previously unimaginable rewards. Every organization this kid touches instantly learns how encouraging and supportive he is as a teammate. In my view, it's only a matter of time until the rest of the world realizes just how talented of a back-up professional athlete we may have on our hands.
